Understanding Fashion – Why Women are so Hooked

Fashion is fleeting

Trends are created every day to replace the fashion of yesterday. The greatest designers of our time; Coco Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent and Christian Dior all agree.  Even great fashion has no real identity and women are only drawn to it because it is fun and fanciful.

Women and their fashion accessories are like Men and their ego – naturally inseparable. Women spend an absurd amount of money for shoes, clothes, handbags, and other accessories that will quickly be out of style. But it doesn’t matter because no woman in the world can live life without expressing her fashion sense. Even  conservative women from the Middle East are slowly finding a way to make their traditional clothing stylish and fun. Recently, Karl Lagerfeld, head fashion designer for Chanel, launched a fashion show in Dubai with collections inspired from the traditional hijabs and burkas worn by Muslim women.

The power of fashion

That itself is  proof that fashion is truly an international culture because it encompasses tradition, religion, and faith. It is the most popular business because the global media is also drawn to it. And with the estimated population of over 3 billion female worldwide, no doubt this business is a huge success. Every year, the fashion industry earns $1.2 trillion. It’s an industry that puts the roof over 4.2 million families’ worldwide. With that said, how bad can fashion  be?

Fashion is freeing. Fashion is everything. As the late Coco Chanel said,

“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”

Women and their Craze for Fashion Accessories

Women are the world’s most notorious shoppers, that if fashion were a crime, every jail would hold all women prisoners. No woman can ignore the scent of a new bag, the touch of a new dress, or the comfort of a new pair of shoes. In cold countries, gloves are necessities. But what’s more necessary for most women is if it is a fingerless glove or a lace glove. Funny as it is, it is a fact. Even women who like to call themselves “nerds” have their own preference of fashion style.  Everyone has varied tastes, and it is with utter importance to self-preservation that these tastes are expressed.

Let’s take it back to the beginning. Let’s flip through the pages of the Bible. When Adam and Eve took a bite from the fruit of wisdom, they realized they were naked and started to sew their clothes from a fig leaf.

“And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons…” (Genesis 3:7)

Since then, the sewing of clothing flourished. It expanded into other clothing apparels such as sandals, bags, scarves, caps, gloves, headdress, etc. As the population of the human beings multiplied, Man has grown creative too, creating clothing that gives protection and warmth taking in mind the factors of style and class.

What’s in and what’s not

Every fashion style changes every season. Fashion houses like Gucci, Chanel, Dior, and more launch new designs for seasonal collections. But not all of them are wearable, and not all of them are affordable.

The decision on what can be worn still relies on a woman’s perspective. Cropped tops that show abs are hot these days regardless if you have them long sleeves or no sleeves at all. Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, Selena Gomez, and young teens wear them. Bright patterned dresses go right for the summer season too, but you have to make sure it’s translucent or sheer because this is the year of the sheer. White wide bottomed pants are trending too, just as much as clothing with embellished details.

And don’t forget about the hair. Pixie hairstyle is everyone’s style these days. However, if you prefer to keep it long, you have to make it super straight because the big pageant curls days are over. Jennifer Lawrence and Hilary Duff both keep their haircut shoulder length and wavy, while Khloe Kardashian applied hombre tones. Side- slicked updos are perfect for corporate looks whether it’s summer or winter. There are a lot of head accessories out in the market such as floral garlands, Alice band, and turbans, but the simple bobby pins are making a huge comeback. A simple behind the ear tuck goes so well with anything you’re wearing.

Everyone is guilty

Women’s fashion accessories are commodities that help them become confident. According to Plato,

“Beauty of style and harmony and grace and good rhythm depend on simplicity.”

If there is a truth in that, then both men and women are convicted to being extravagant and superficial. Because the truth of the matter is, men too spend equally as women do when it comes to clothing and apparels. Fashion is vanity’s best friend. But is it so bad to invest on it especially when people mostly judge you base on physical appearance?
